Charles A. MacArthur, PhD, is a professor emeritus in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. He also conducts research on writing development and instruction, literacy, self-regulated strategies, and motivation. His focus is on students who need extra support to be successful, including students with learning disabilities, college basic writers, and adult learners. 

MacArthur has directed 10 federally funded research projects on writing instruction over the past 30 years. He has published more than 125 research articles and book chapters as well as several books. His most recent book, Writing Instruction for Success in College and the Workplace, is based on his work with Zoi Philippakos on writing instruction for students who need extra preparation for college.
