Year in review: A look at Understood’s impact in 2024
Almost 70 million people in the United States have learning and thinking differences like dyslexia and ADHD. Yet too often, the world isn’t designed for them to thrive. Thanks to your support, we’ve spent the past 10 years changing that. Together, we’ve raised awareness and provided vital resources. And we’ve helped countless individuals navigate challenges, discover strengths, and build confidence.
Here’s a look at what we’ve accomplished together in 2024…
This year we welcomed over 11 million visitors to the Understood.org website. Visitors like you benefited from 7,000+ Understood resources — including podcasts, articles, downloads, and videos. And with 33 million views across social platforms, we’ve been able to connect with you. We also launched the following:
Understood Assistant
Launched in May, our AI-powered Understood Assistant made getting expert-vetted information quick and easy. Since then, we’ve reached over 700,000 people, giving them quick answers and information tailored to their questions.
MissUnderstood Podcast Channel
Launched in July, MissUnderstood: The ADHD in Women Channel empowers and supports women by exploring a wide range of life topics — from dating to imposter syndrome and much more. With over 15,000 listeners and growing, it’s becoming a powerful community for women navigating ADHD.
YouTube Channel (Re)Launch
In August, we relaunched our YouTube Channel and reached an audience of 10.9 million, sharing expert insights in engaging video formats.
The Understood App
Updated in September, the Understood app helps parents address their child’s big emotions with lessons grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy. Eighty percent of parents agree that the Understood app helped them feel more confident handling their child’s challenging behavior.
STEM Educator Hub
In October, we partnered with 3M to raise awareness about the benefits of STEM education for students who learn and think differently. We launched a curated library of resources to help educators adapt STEM curriculum to be inclusive and accessible.
Collaboration with 11:11 Media Impact and Paris Hilton
During ADHD Awareness Month, we partnered with 11:11 Media Impact, the charitable arm of Paris Hilton’s next-gen media and consumer lifestyle company. Together, we spread the word about our resources for women with ADHD, reaching 10 million women.
NeuroEquity Research Collaborative (NERC)
NERC tackles critical research gaps in neurodivergence. In October, we held the “Breaking the Silos” symposium at Columbia University. At this event, partners presented research focused on unique challenges faced by individuals with learning differences who also identified with marginalized identities across race and/or income.
Looking to what’s next
Your support empowers kids, families, educators, and adults, giving them the tools they need to understand learning and thinking differences. They become advocates for themselves and for others. And they thrive — in school, at home, and in life. Together, we’re building an active, inclusive community dedicated to helping people with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning and thinking differences succeed.
Thanks to you, our expert-vetted resources remain free and accessible to all. We’re excited about the future and can’t wait to share what’s in store as we look ahead to 2025 and beyond! Donate to support our mission.
