Sarah R. Powell, PhD, is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin. She focuses on the teaching and learning of math, particularly for students who learn math differently. Powell works on several research projects about math word-problem solving, fractions, and data-based decision making.
Powell travels nationally and internationally to work with teachers on evidence-based math instruction for all learners. She has received $40M in grant funding to investigate how to help students with math. She also is the recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and has written 20 books or book chapters and more than 100 articles.
She earned both her PhD and her MSEd degree from Vanderbilt University.
