Editorial standards

Our mission at Understood, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is to help people who learn and think differently thrive. The articles on our website are created for educational and informational purposes. They’re not meant to take the place of professional or medical advice. But every article is reviewed by an expert in that field.

We work every day to make sure our articles are accurate and based on credible sources. We hold ourselves to the following editorial standards.

Accurate and credible

Every article we produce goes through a review process with one of our 80-plus experts in a wide range of fields. We regularly consult with our experts to get the latest information and insights into a topic area. Once an article is written, we send it to an expert in that field for review, and then incorporate any feedback before publishing.

Our experts work to ensure that our information is accurate and up-to-date. They also check that we’re giving the right information in the right context.

Accountable

If content in an article is inaccurate or outdated, we review it and update or revise it as quickly as possible. We welcome comments, questions, and concerns. Contact us at info@understood.org.

Accessible

We want the content on our site to be welcoming and easy to access. That’s why we use clear, simple language. Whenever we can, we keep our content at a conversational eighth-grade reading level or below. Learn more about our commitment to accessibility

Independent

The content in our articles isn’t influenced by any industry or corporate interests. If we recommend products or tools, we don’t get paid for mentioning them. And we don’t endorse any companies or products. We’re not affiliated with any pharmaceutical companies and don’t accept donations or other funds from them.
